Medical Mission International ships around £12 million in value each year of targeted relief aid to save the lives of people around the world suffering from the effects of natural disaster, civil crisis, war, famine, and unrelenting economic turmoil and poverty.
“Targeted aid shipments are integral to successful humanitarian intervention, “said Doug Kendrick, Medical Mission International Programme Director. “These shipments are often the difference between life and death. In many circumstances, even if people could acquire money to purchase desperately needed items, the supply chains have been disrupted by crisis, natural disaster or economic conditions, resulting in scarcity,” he said.
In response, Medical Mission International dispatches ocean cargo containers filled with pharmaceuticals, medical supplies, medical disposables and equipment, food, clothing, emergency tents, and sleeping bags, school supplies and even ambulances.
MMI ships humanitarian aid to the far corners of the world. Recent aid shipments include the countries of Sierra Leone, South Sudan, Zimbabwe, Ghana, Jordan, Haiti, Malawi, Philippines, Ethiopia, The Republic of Djibouti, Somaliland, Kenya, Burkina Faso, South Africa, Cameroon, Lebanon, Mali, and Liberia.
Many humanitarian shipments are directed to areas overwhelmed by the on-going refugee crisis. MMI relief shipments, such as food, clothing and medical supplies are dispatched into numerous regions in Africa and the middle east to help meet the needs of people who have fled their homes in search of safety. These shipments bridge critical supply gaps. The humanitarian crisis continues to escalate as many regions around the world are overwhelmed with people from bordering countries seeking refuge, as well as Internally displaced people, from within their own country, whose homes and villages have been destroyed by conflict and war.
Supporting healthcare capacity in developing countries is also a primary objective of Medical Mission International. MMI routinely dispatches medical supplies and equipment to hospitals and clinics in severely resource limited countries around the world. These shipments bolster health infrastructure in fragile economies and struggling communities. Hospital linens, bedding, scrubs for medical staff, sutures, bandages, and palettes of medicines filled with antibiotics like Amoxicillin, Ciprofloxacin, Penicillin and other life-saving drugs, provide facilities with essentials to operate and provide urgently needed medication for malaria and tuberculosis and many other endemic diseases and illness. MMI also supplies clinics and hospitals with specifically requested equipment and machines to assist in equipping facilities. Medical facilities throughout the developing world often scramble to stock basic supplies, equipment, medicines and pharmaceuticals and struggle to provide even the most routine care to patients who came seeking treatment. “MMI humanitarian aid shipments equip local doctors, nurses and medical clinics with the tools to diagnose, treat disease and illness and save lives,” said Kendrick.
Every shipping container filled with life-saving humanitarian relief is a tangible reminder to the people suffering in adverse conditions and places that they are not forgotten. It is a message of hope. Medical Mission International is grateful to all supporters who help make these critical shipments possible.
